FGCC Meeting Minutes

November 11, 2008

 •  The  Program for the evening was “Street Photography” presented by three of our members  -  Chuck Spalding , Cyane Lowden and Hal Tyler.  Each had a different view and backed their comments up with some excellent images.  There were several questions, the most numerous of which dealt with “Do you ask a person prior to taking their photo?”  The answers to this varied and so we seemed to be left with “It’s up to the individual taking the pictures.”

 •  The roundtable of digital images was shown with images from Hal Tyler, Bob Jones, Tim Slaven, Chuck Spalding, John Garofalo, Linda Warfield, ED Fuhr and Al Warfield. Both Hal and Ed showed outstanding mountain landscape images.  Ed, Linda and Al shared fall foliage scenes from the Richmond area. Tim Slavan showed Infrared images taken with his recently purchased Canon camera with Infrared conversion. Chuck Spalding shared a set of four of the same image processed with a Photoshop plug in that provides the capability to alter the images to match a wide variety of films and photo papers.  The software is Nik Silver Eflix Pro.  Bob Jones shared several  images of a honey bee in flight taken at f22 and 1000 of a sec. cropped to various enlargements of the bee demonstrating the capability of the Nikon D3 to produce sharp images at very high ISO (2200).

 •  The digital portion of roundtable was followed by Steve Girimont showing us about 20, 16x20 prints he had taken and printed from the Alain Briot workshop he participated in Antelope Canyon , Arizona and Utah .  Steve very briefly discussed his process for capturing multiple images at various exposures and then combining the images in Photoshop to create the final image.  They were exquisite!
